My work is about identity, the persona and individuation. I use absurdity and metaphor as a means to elucidate on what aspects of the self are shown and what is hidden. A personality is a fusion of many sub-personalities, and the lines between the true self and the mask are blurred. We create walls for protection and live in our projected fantasies as a means of coping. The products of this exploration are merely stand-ins for the persistent gnawing of existential malaise and fears about the human condition that we regularly put aside in order to function on a daily basis. Destruction and re-construction are part of the fabric of human history, but the individual also must struggle with destroying aspects of the self that are no longer useful or creating a sub-identity in order to get along in the world. We oftentimes don’t say what we are thinking or where we’ve been.
